Lisbon is the primary international gateway to Portugal. If you arrive at Humberto Delgado Airport (LIS), you have three main ways to reach Coimbra:

Option 1: By Train

This is the fastest and most comfortable way to travel.

• From the Airport to the Train Station: Take the Metro (Red Line) directly from the Airport to Oriente Station (Gare do Oriente). It is only a 3-station ride (approx. 5–10 minutes).

• Train Selection: At Oriente, take a north-bound train operated by CP - Comboios de Portugal.

• • Alfa Pendular (AP): The fastest option (approx. 1h 35m).

  • Intercidades (IC): Slightly slower but more affordable (approx. 1h 50m to 2h).

• Arrival at Coimbra-B: Since the old downtown station (Coimbra-A) is now closed, you must transfer at Coimbra-B.

  • Metrobus Shuttle: Look for the dedicated shuttle bus immediately outside the station. It is free for CP ticket holders and runs frequently to the city center (Portagem/Baixa).

  • Taxi/Uber: A 5–10 minute ride to most central hotels (~€7.00).

Option 2: By Bus or Shuttle

• Direct Shuttle: our mobility partner Airport Shuttle operates in the entire country.

• Bus:  FlixBus (our mobility partner) has direct departures available from Lisbon Airport or Oriente station. Alternatively you can use Rede Expressos: take the Metro to Sete Rios station. Buses depart nearly every hour.

• Arrival: You will arrive at the Coimbra Bus Terminal (Av. Fernão de Magalhães), a short walk or taxi ride from the center.

Option 3: By Car

• Distance: Approx. 200 km.

• Route: Take the A1 motorway North.

• Time: Around 2 hours. Please note that the A1 is a tolled highway.
