Conference venue
The 10th edition of the International Conference on Forest Fire Research will be held in one of the city’s most emblematic historical places, the Convento de São Francisco Cultural and Congress Center, located in the left margin of the Mondego River, facing the old town and University.
The original Convent was built in the beginning of the VII century, but in 1602 it was moved upwards on the hill due to the frequent flooding of the Mondego River. With a unique history, the Convent has had many functions in its past, from a hospital to a military headquarters or a textile factory. After several years of occasional arts events and no permanent occupation, restoration work on the former Convento de São Francisco began in October 2010. The re-opening of the Convent to the public, in 2016, offered Coimbra one of the most prestigious Cultural and Congress Centers in Portugal. You can check its cultural agenda, and surely you will find something interesting to see during your stay with us.
